Ewan got his first bass just before he turned 13 and hasn't looked back, gaining a wealth of experience playing with various bands and in musicals along the way.

Now based in Edinburgh, he plays bass with Ten Storeys High, who having recently toured with The Proclaimers, are set to release their debut album "The Thrill Of The Fall" early in 2008.
Ewan is also plays bass for recording artist Flash Callahan who signed to Jalapeno Records in 2007.

"Since receiving my Shuker bass I've not been able to put it down. It's absolutely perfect. No EQ required, I just dial it to the front pick up and that's my tone, straight off the bat! Jon really nailed my sound request - thank you!"

About the Soundclips

The first one, called "Don't Let The Demons Bite", is a wee spoiler from my favourite track off my band's album. I kept the drums in and re-recorded the bass direct, as producer has been messing with the proper recording a little. It's a clip from the forthcoming album, "The Thrill Of The Fall" by Ten Storeys High. It's the sound I use pretty much all the time, front pickup, slight bass boost, slight treble treble cut, as you can hear it's got balls to say the least!

The second clip, called "Chordal Piece"
You can hear the sweetness of the top end, which I attribute to the slightly shorter scale, and of course a bit of Shuker Magic. For this one, it was just back pickup with a completely flat EQ.

The third clip, called "Slap and Finger Funk"
Just a bit of Slap Bass, followed bit a of finger style using the low b string. I still get folks scoffing at a 33" scale having a decent low B, but you can hear for yourself it's just fine. In fact, it's better than the low B on a 36" scale boutique brand bass I played a wee while ago.
Setting for this one where, both pickups on full, slight bass boost, bit of mid cut.
